The war against truth is nothing new, of course. It began in the garden when the serpent said to the woman, "Has God indeed said . . . ?" (Genesis 3:1). A relentless battle has raged ever since between truth and falsehood, good and evil, light and dark, ness, assurance and doubt, belief and scepticism, righteousness and sin. It is a savage spiritual conflict that literally spans all of human history. But the ferocity and irrationality of this present onslaught seems quite unprecedented.

The goal of human philosophy used to be truth without God. Today's philosophies are open to the notion of God without truth, or to be more accurate, personal "spirituality" in which everyone is free to create his or her own god. Personal gods pose no threat to sinful self-will, because they suit each sinner's personal prefer, ences anyway, and they make no demands on anyone else.

Dr. Tom Lambie, one of the great missionaries to Africa, con, cluded that the height of a civilization can be measured by the amount of contamination in its drinking water. Think of the mod, ern pollution of our water supplies! I would say to you in the name of Jesus Christ that the degree of the infidelity of an individual Christian or a Christian group to the Word of God in doctrine and life is shown by the amount of contamination in the water which flows forth.

Both right doctrine and right living are absolutely essential and totally inseparable for the true child of God. That is the consis, tent teaching of Christ Himself. "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31-32).

Of all forms of deception self-deception is the most deadly, and of all deceived persons the self-deceived are the least likely to discover the fraud.

Our Lord forewarned us that false Christs should come. Mostly we think of these as coming from the outside, but we should remem, ber that they may also arise within the sanctuary itself.

People are more inclined to say, "Listen, Lord, for your servant is speaking," than "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening."

"He who begins with loving his own view of truth more than the truth itself, will end in loving his own denomination more than Christ, and ultimately in loving himself most of all."

Too many Christians don't want the Lord to rule over them, just like Israel of old, they want to be their own king.

The sum of all this is that religion today is not transforming the people; rather it is being transformed by the people. It is not raising the moral level of society; it is descending to society's own level and congratulating itself that it has scored a victory because society is smilingly accepting its surrender. I believe that much of our religious unbelief is due to a wrong conception of and a wrong feeling for the Scriptures of Truth. A silent God suddenly began to speak in a book and when the book was finished lapsed back into silence again forever. Now we read the book as the record of what God said when He was for a brief time in a speaking mood. With notions like that in our heads how can we believe? The facts are that God is not silent, has never been silent. It is the nature of God to speak. The second Person of the Holy Trinity is called the Word. The Bible is the inevitable outcome of God's continuous speech. It is the infallible declaration of His mind for us put into our familiar human words. "˜The Pursuit of God,' A.W.Tozer

From its very nature, the lot of the leader must be a lonely one. He must always be ahead of his followers. Though he be the friendliest of men, there are areas of life in which he must be red to tread a lonely path. This fact dawned painfully on Dixon E. Hoste when Hudson Taylor laid down the direction of China Inland Mission and appointed Hoste his successor. After interview during which the appointment was made, the new leader, sensible of the weight of responsibility which now was his, "And now I have no one, no one but God!" In his journey to top he had left behind all his contemporaries and stood alone the mount with his God.Read more ...

Compromise is the partial waiving of principle for the sake of reaching agreement. It is always a backward step when we consent to lower our standards, and all too often this is involved in arriving at a compromise. It nearly always involves a scaling down of standards.

The Christian life isn't a life that we live, it is a life that the Spirit of God who indwells us, is living through us "“ that is the Holy Spirit is the expressing the character of Jesus Christ in and through our life.

This is not a time for weak men in weak pulpits in weak churches preaching weak messages.,   The aim of good Bible teaching is to conform church members to Christ's image.

A great statesman made a speech that turned the tide in national affairs. "May I ask how long it took you to prepare that speech?" asked an admirer. "All my life has been a preparation for what I said today," was the reply.

Everywhere is apathy. Nobody cares whether that which is preached is true or false. A sermon is a sermon whatever the subject; only the shorter the better.

Love is internal, not external. There can be external manifesta, tions, but love itself will always be an internal factor. Coveting is always internal; the external manifestation is result. We must see that to love God with all the heart, mind, and soul is not to covet against God; and to love man, to love our neighbour as ourselves, is not to covet against man. When I covet God's prerogatives for myself, or covet another person's things for myself, I am not loving God or the person as I should.

The effort of liberal and borderline modernists to woo men to God by presenting the soft side of religion is an unqualified evil because it ignores the very reason for our alienation from God in the first place. ,  ,

Of course this environment-of not saying "no"-fits exactly into our individual natural disposition, because, since the fall of man, we do not want to deny ourselves. Actually we do everything we can, whether it is in a philosophic sense or a practical sense, to put ourselves at the centre of the universe. This is where we naturally want to live. And this natural disposition fits in exactly with the environment which surrounds us in the twentieth century.
