This challenge initiated an informal debate between pastor Joe Schimmel of Blessed Hope Chapel and himself concerning the subject of Dr Ice's contention that the apostasia in 2 Thess. 2:3 refers not to a departure from the faith, but a spatial departure into Heaven, namely the Rapture.

Last week we published a number of strong statements against Lakeland by one of Peter Wagner's 'apostles' named Robert Ricciardelli. For those who are not aware, Peter Wagner heads up an organization devoted to setting in place "apostles" over the church. This is known as the 'New Apostolic Reformation' (NAR), and it has been very controversial. I myself have never seen it as any kind of true "Reformation" - because all it seems to do is set up another level of hierarchy over the existing ones. I also question whether many of the "apostles" are true apostles - but that is another story. Reformed Theology Reformed theology,  is associated with the Institutes of John Calvin and the definition and even redefinition of Calvin's ideas by his later followers led by Theodore Beza at The Remonstrance of Dort in Holland. It is a theology of the 16th century reformers who recognized the evils of Rome and attempted to remove the unbiblical rituals and traditions from Christianity. They adopted the state church system, including infant baptism, thus replacing a Roman Catholic state church with a Protestant one. As with Roman Catholicism, Calvin followed the Latin Vulgate more than the original Greek and Hebrew and like the papacy he subscribed to patristic as well as apostolic authority. He saw the church fathers, especially Augustine, as a source of doctrinal authority in addition to the New Testament. Philosophically, Reformed theology has more in common with Islam than with Judeo-Christian thought because of its European version of the Muslim belief "Inja allah" - everything that happens is the perfect will of the creator. Thus in Calvinism, as opposed to scriptural Christianity, God creates certain people to go to hell to be eternally tortured and thus God, not Satan, becomes the author of death and evil.Read more ...
