Prayer Requests

Prayer Request for Helen

Please pray for Sandy as she ministers to a neighbor  She wants to reach her before it's too late.  She is 80 years old, she's Catholic, deaf, and Dutch!  Communication is a real problem sometimes.  She knows no sign language, and I have Cerebral Palsy, so my signing ability is very limited. I do a lot of writing and typing on my computer to communicate with her.

I wept as I ministered to Helen this evening.  I bought a Bible Trivia game to use as a teaching tool, and the first question I asked Helen was "How many days did it take God to create the world?"  She guessed 30.  She has never heard even the most basic Bible story.  All she knows is a little of the Catholic Catechism.  She only went as far as the 4th grade.  Then the Germans invaded Holland.  Even now I weep.  She talked about grenades whizzing past her head as she tried to make it home from school in one piece.  She talked of friends with legs and arms blown off and even killed on their way to and from school.  As I tried to minister to her, I asked the Lord, "How can I reach her?"  It's like she's at the bottom of a deep well, and I have nothing more than a ball of yarn to pull her up with.  She didn't understand substitutionary atonement at all.  Of course, I didn't use that word, but I did my best to explain the concept.  She asked why God made Jesus go through that, and I told her He didn't make Him do it, Jesus volunteered because He loved us.

This is going to be a long hard road, and I need God's wisdom to know how to deal with this.  Please pray for me as I try to break through all the barriers in Helen's life.
